Sorry my blog has been so depressing this week but this was another big event in our life. 3 years ago today we lost Jason's little brother Darrick to a drug overdose. Darrick was my age. He was 25 when he died. He is actually Jason's step brother but they were raised together and always considered themselves real brothers. Jason has a lot of memories growing up with Darrick. They were the toughest kids on the block and were always finding ways to get into mischief together. Darrick had a big heart and we miss him at every family event. Fortunately, we still get to see his beautiful daughter, Madeline, and she looks just like him!(Another blurry picture) I am just going to quickly speak out on drug addiction because it is so harmful. I've seen first hand the effects it has had on peoples lives and it has brought them nothing but harm. I'm so grateful for the Word of Wisdom. I know my life has been blessed for obeying it (staying away from drugs and alcohol) and I pray that I can teach my children the importance of it. If anyone out there is struggling with addiction... please try to overcome it before it is too late!
I had to put this picture up for laughs. Check out that hair! It cracks me up and you gotta love Jason's oversized purple shirt. WE MISS YOU DARRICK! We miss your jokes, your witty comments, and charming smile!!

Eleigh LeCates
Here is another post that puts life into perspective. Baylee's friend, Eleigh LeCates, was killed in a car accident yesterday. She was only 15 years old. She went on a road trip with another friends family. On their way home it was hailing and raining badly and the driver lost control of the car and rolled it. Eleigh was killed immediately. We've been told that the friends Dad is paralyzed. The two other people in the car survived with minor injuries.Sorry for another blurry picture. (I need a working scanner and computer for that matter) But this is a picture of Baylee and Eleigh together. It is in their yearbook. Eleigh's family lives in our neighborhood. Eleigh is the oldest child in her family. She has 3 younger brothers. Eleigh was the girl who hosted all the fun Birthday and Halloween parties. She was very close with her Mom. Can you imagine receiving a phone call that your teenage daughter is dead? I can't. My heart is breaking for this family. You just never know when tragedy could strike. After today especially, I am going to thank my Heavenly Father for the children in my life and I'm going to hug my loved ones tighter because you never know what the future holds.
P.S. My computer is officially not working. I hope I can get it fixed and still save my pictures. It's not even a year old. I am going crazy without it!! Thanks to my sister-in-law, Ligia, for letting me use her computer.

Thank You and want an invite??
The response to the post about my Mother has been overwhelming! Thank you so much for all your kind, inspiring comments. I really appreciate it. It's made my week. I do have a lot on my plate and I'm doing the best I know how. I am far from perfect but can honestly say I am trying my best. I've been having computer problems lately so I might not be able to update my blog for a little while but while it is open... is there anyone who would like an invite before I go private again?? Email me at karlinkess@comcast.net. It's been so fun to hear from so many people. Thanks again! I know my Mom would be so touched!

4 years...
4 years ago today I lost my Mom to a hard fought battle with Ovarian Cancer. She battled for 5 years. She never complained and she continued to LOVE and SUPPORT her family until the day she died. She was my best friend. I miss her everyday. There will always be a feeling of void in my life. I honestly ache for her. It's amazing how life goes on. It actually seems like more than 4 years because so much has changed. (I'm a different person being a mother of 4!) I had a good time looking through pictures and remembering things about her that I don't get to everyday. It was perfect because Jason was out of town, Baylee was out with friends, Griffin went to Wyoming to herd cattle with a friend, and my kids were in bed so I had the night to myself. That NEVER happens. I actually think that it's the first time since my Mom's passed that I had a night to myself. I feel SO blessed to be her daughter. I didn't know it at the time, but she truly did prepare me to raise her children and mine. She was a wonderful example of selfless LOVE. I'll never forget her. Here are some pictures and memories that I cherish most... (sorry for the bad quality. My scanner didn't work so I took them with my camera but I still wanted to share even if they are blurry) Warning... some of my thoughts are kind of long, but it was therapeutic for me. I hope you enjoy getting to know my Mom better.

Miss My Hubby
Jason left Tuesday night for Northern California. He flew out with 3 of his employees to do some work for his sister. They are in the middle of doing a big addition and remodel on their house. He will be gone for 5 days... officially the longest we have ever been apart. I don't like to be alone at all. It is true that distance makes the heart grow fonder. I miss my hard working man! He's so much fun to be around! Can't wait to see you again, Jason. I love you tons!! XOXO

Alone for 15 minutes??
No joking... I left Avaree alone for 15 minutes while I posted about Memorial Day and look what she did...
I know you are thinking that was longer than 15 minutes. She did make the plant and cake mess before she became the zebra but it didn't take long for her to get into a lot of mischief. Some days I just can't keep up with her!
